Abruzzo is a lot of things: Abruzzo is Nature... Abruzzo is Wilderness... Abruzzo is History ... But Abruzzo is also thousands and thousands of curvy roads immersed into the wild. What's better to spend a day, a week or even more exploring this amazing region being on top of your motorbike?
In Italy there is not just Sardegna or Tuscany for a motorbike trip and that's why today we decided to spend some words about motorcycle tourism in Abruzzo.
How can we describe thousands of kilometers in just few words? Well, just for this time, we'll leave the task to a short video...
Did you already start your bike? If not, please have a sit and spend a couple of minutes reading this article because we are going to suggest you the best road trip you could ever have in your life!
This amazing 350 kilometers round trip starts in L'Aquila and goes through the Gran Sasso of Italy National Park, Abruzzo National Park and Sirente Velino Regional Park.
The road for the whole trip is that beautiful that you would never want to jump off from your bike but there is so much to see..
After a 50 kilometers of breathless curvy road the first stop is at the Campotosto Lake (the second bigger artificial lake in Europe). The majesty of this lake deserve at least a quick look!
After a tasty coffee at the Chioscheria Cafe is time to restart the engine and ride streight to the top of the Gran Sasso of Italy: the Campo Imperatore Plateau! Located at almost 2000 meters above sea level this stunning road goes through the entire plateau for approximately 18 kilometers. Here the view is just incredible! The place is called "the little Tibet" and, trust me, it will make you feel riding your motorbike on top of the Himalaya!
At the very end of the Campo Imperatore Plateau there is a perfect place to have a quick lunch in some of the best rustical places in the area! Get in and ask for authentic Arrosticini roasted meet...
Now is time to say goodbye to the Gran Sasso of Italy National Park and ride for about 85 kilometers from Castel del Monte to Scanno in the earth of the Abruzzo National Park. When you'll be close to Scanno and its lovely lake slow down! The road is as stunning as it is tiny and tricky.
Now, after this long ride, is time to have some rest and there isn't a better place then Scanno for this. The city is beautiful, immersed into the nature and food is just great!
The next stop is at Villetta Barrea. This is an unbelievable place! It is called the city of deers and you'll understand the reason why as soon as you'll get there! Here it's time to ride carefully. There are deer sleeping, fighting and eating all around the place! This city makes you feel live a fairy tale...
Now is almost time to get back to L'Aquila. In front of our eyes there are about 40 kilometers of curvy road into the Abruzzo National Park and then, from Celano, two different ways to get back: the highway or another stunning road which goes for 50 kilometers through the Sirente Velino Regional Park. But we are Abruzzo Motorcycle Tourism addicted so... the choice is just one!
