Rocca di Mezzo "Festa del Narciso":
Will you be visiting the Sirente-Velino Regional Park during the spring? Between the beautiful villages Rocca di Mezzo, Rovere, Rocca di Cambio and the hiking trails of the protected area, you can not miss the historic center of the pretty town of Rocca di Mezzo transformed into a long walkway where carts covered by daffodil flowers parade on the Festa del Narciso (Narcissus Festival) day!
The appointment with the event which from 60 years (just after the end of World War Two) animates the pretty village in the province of L'Aquila will come back punctually every year on the last Sunday of May once the snow melts and the daffodils cover all the grasslands of the "Altopiano delle Rocche".
The highlight is expected on Sunday afternoon, at 3pm, when the carts set up on articulated structures and covered with flowers, driven by street artists, will parade in the streets of Rocca di Mezzo. They will then be evaluated by a jury which will base the vote on the structures, sceneries and floral scenography: the latter represents the most characteristic part of the event!
The parade is centered on the flower representing from many years the Rocche's Plateau: the Daffodil. In the last week of the month, the girls living in Rocca di Mezzo take care of collecting enough daffodil flowers and the evening before the parade they arrange the Flowers in special nets covering the entire structure of the colorful carts to represent a particular theme.
The festival is enriched each year with new and more fascinating and unique activities, a parade of colors and perfumes of Abruzzo traditions. Year by year thousands of people gather here to see this wonderful event and many take the opportunity to explore the surroundings or walk in the uncontaminated forests, mountains and caves part of the Regional Park.
