Paganica Outdoor Climbing :
The Paganica outdoor climbing cliff in near the Madonna d'Appari hermitage is one of the most loved by the climbers of Abruzzo. The presence of numerous climbing routes, divided into different levels of difficulty, the charming sanctuary from which the wall takes its name and the massive Gran Sasso of Italy a few kilometers away make this adventure irresistible for climbers and mountain lovers.
The stone wall is divided into two areas:
Sector "A": It extends on the front wall and has numerous pathways of varying difficulty ranging from 5A to 6B +. This makes the wall in question suitable for all climbers (from beginners to advanced).
For beginners, we recommend you to enjoy the first three ways on the left of 5A, 4C and 5C, ideal to refine your technique in absolute safety but with guaranteed fun.
For the more experienced, we note the 6A and 6B central streets as fun and technically rewarding.
Sector "B": It extends to the left side wall and has very difficult routes to the more experienced climbers.
The ways in this area start from affordable rates like the funny 6A slit on the right to the prohibitive 8A+ of "Continuavano a chiamarlo Trinità" (surely the most fascinating route with a really impressive development that recalls the best athletes).
Many factors contribute to making this climbing site really unique and unusual. The environment is lush in the narrow gorge formed by the River "Raiale" at the feet of Gran Sasso mountain range, where during hot summer days it is possible to find a bit of refreshing water. Next to the river stands the magnificent ancient stone sanctuary near which you can make a comfortable and relaxing walk on a simple and well maintained path. We note the presence of a dining area set up with wooden tables.
In short, Madonna d'Appari's cliff is a place where you will not only climb but where you can spend a wonderful day in touch with the nature, rock and history of this hermitage.
The Paganica Outdoor Climbing cliffs are easily accessible as it is right along the road that connects Paganica(AQ) to Assergi(AQ) and allows you to park your car a few meters away from the cliff.
At the base of the rocky wall we note the presence of two comfortable benches where you can rest your goods during the climbing phase.
Keep in mind the special exposure of the wall that depending on the season can be exploited in sunny days during the winter season or in the shady part on hot summer days.
We also note the presence of the "perverse cross": a small rocky wall, equipped with mattresses and already traced, where to practice bouldering. This last rocky wall can be reached by continuing on the road that leads to the Madonna d'Appari cliff for another 200 meters.
